WordPress vs. Shopify - Which is better in 2023?

WordPress vs. Shopify: Ease of Use

WordPress has a basic and clean backend, and everything in the dashboard is straightforward to utilize. The various content areas of the site and the settings that can be adjusted are located on the left side of the page.

You don't need to be an expert in-store design to use Shopify, and you can open an online retail store in only a few minutes. The Shopify dashboard makes it simple to see all of your store's front and back-end components in one location.

WordPress vs. Shopify: Theme Design & Customization

Over 70 professionally designed themes are available on Shopify, and all of them are mobile-friendly. All themes provide a comprehensive list of customizations that you may apply without touching a single line of code.

WordPress.com has a plethora of themes. Some are free, while others are paid, and you are limited to the themes that they allow. The Business Plan, on the other hand, gives you access to all of the most popular WordPress themes.

Back up data

Using an extension can ensure your data is safe. However, it is always better to back up everything before making any significant changes to your store, and backup via WebHost or manual backup is effective.

Custom collections

In the WordPress Categories, custom collections generate. As you need to transfer them to the Shopify store, you need to do them manually. It is a tough job, and hence expert Shopify developers can do this easily.

Index updating

Product category URLs in WordPress can be different in Shopify once after the migration. Make sure you create redirects for each of these products. This act helps search engines recognize the items and index them.

Post-migration tips for SEO Maintenance

#1 Switch domain

By now, you are done with the Shopify migration from WordPress. It is time to move your old domain to the Shopify store. You must first move your old part to the new Shopify store by following the steps:

Unlock your domain and obtain a code for transfer authorization. All you need to do is log in to your account with your third-party domain provider and find the domain settings you want to switch to, then press Unlock.

You may have to confirm these changes by email, depending on your domain provider. If so, the domain transfer process takes up to 20 days to complete. Shopify will give you a message confirming the successful transfer of your domain.

Step 1

From your Shopify admin panel, click "Online Store" -> "Domains" -> "Transfer domains".

Step 2

Enter the domain that you want to transfer to Shopify, click "Next."

Step 3

Click "Verify domain." You will see a "Domain unlocked" message

Step 4

In the Verification code box, enter the authorization code and click "Next" -> "Buy and transfer."

#2 Test URLs

Check if all your URLs are intact and if they landed adequately on your new store. Make sure all your store URLs are directed to old URLs. This helps you avoid being landed upon 404 pages. If there are any redirected links, you need to fix them to ensure better SEO.

#3 Add rich snippets

Rich snippets appear appealing and make it easy to improve search rankings as compared to regular search results. Make sure you add rich snippets to your Shopify store- they are pretty productive to generate a higher CTR.
